Why Your AI-Built Website Isn't Showing Up on Google

If you search for your business name and your new AI-built website isn't showing up on Google, it might not be broken. It might be new, or it might be telling Google to stay away.

See if Google knows about the site

Type site:yourdomain.com into Google, with your real domain in place of "yourdomain.com." If nothing comes up, Google probably hasn't indexed the site yet. If pages do show up but not near the top, that's a ranking question, and it has a different fix.

New sites need time

A new site can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to get indexed, and showing up for competitive searches usually takes longer. If your site went live this week, waiting is part of the answer. You can speed things up, though, and the rest of this covers how.

Look for a noindex tag

A noindex tag tells Google not to list a page. Some site builders add it to draft or preview versions, and it can carry over when the site goes live if nobody turns it off. Open your homepage, right-click, choose View Page Source, and search for the word "noindex."

Check robots.txt

A robots.txt file can block search engines from your whole site with a single line. Go to yourdomain.com/robots.txt and look at it. If you see Disallow: / under User-agent: *, Google is being asked to stay out.

Set up Search Console and submit a sitemap

Google Search Console is free. Verify that you own the domain, submit a sitemap, and use the URL Inspection tool to request indexing for your homepage. The page indexing report will also tell you when something is excluded and why, with messages like "Excluded by noindex."

AI-built sites don't always come with a sitemap, so you might need to generate one before there's anything to submit.

Showing up versus ranking

Once the site is indexed, whether it appears for a search like "electrician near me" depends on the content on the page and on links from other sites. For local searches, your Google Business Profile matters too. If you're a local business, a complete profile and pages that name the towns you serve can matter as much as the technical fixes above.

If you've checked all of this and the site still isn't showing up, or you'd rather not dig through page source and Search Console, send us a message below.

Questions people ask

How long does it take for a new website to show up on Google?

Usually a few days to a few weeks to get indexed, depending on the site. Ranking well for competitive searches can take months. Submitting a sitemap in Search Console helps Google find the pages sooner.

Why does my site show up for my business name but not for my services?

Your business name is an easy match. A search like "plumber near me" means competing with other businesses, so the page content, links from other sites, and your Google Business Profile all start to matter.

Do I have to pay to show up on Google?

No. Getting indexed and appearing in regular results is free. Ads are a separate option and aren't needed for your site to be listed.
