AI Website Contact Form Not Sending Email? Check This

You fill out the contact form on your new site as a test. It says the message was sent, but nothing shows up in your inbox. If your AI website contact form isn't working, it's usually something you can narrow down by checking a few places in order.

Find where the message stops

A contact form can fail at several points. The form might not submit, the site might not send the message, the mail server might reject it, or your inbox might file it as spam. Checking in that order works better than changing settings at random.

Check spam and the address

Look in your spam or junk folder first, and in quarantine if you use a business email system. If the message is there, the form is sending and the problem is deliverability.

Then confirm the address the form sends to. Your form might say “Thanks, we’ll be in touch!” while the message goes nowhere. AI tools often leave a fake address behind, and older sites can still be sending leads to an inbox nobody reads.

Make sure the form sends something

A page built with AI can show a thank-you message without a working backend behind it. A static website can't send email on its own, so the form needs a form service or a small piece of server code to deliver the message. If nobody set that up, the confirmation might be the only thing that happens.

To test it, submit the form from a different email address than the one that receives the messages.

Check SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

These are DNS records that help email providers trust messages that claim to come from your domain. If they're missing or wrong, some providers send form messages to spam or reject them. The form should also send from an address on your own domain, with the visitor's address set as the reply-to, not as the sender.

A brand-new domain that suddenly starts sending mail can look suspicious to some providers too, so delivery might be spotty at first.

If you've never touched these records, your email provider will have setup instructions. Be careful when you edit DNS, since a mistake can affect your regular email.

Keep a record for troubleshooting

If you end up asking someone for help, write down the time you submitted the test, the address you used, and any error that showed up. It makes the message much easier to find in the logs.

Questions people ask

Why does my contact form say "message sent" but I never get the email?

The site might not be sending anything, the message might be sitting in spam, or the receiving server might be rejecting it. Check spam first, then test with a different email address.

What are SPF, DKIM, and DMARC?

They're DNS records that let email providers verify a message really came from your domain. When they're missing, form emails are more likely to land in spam or get rejected.

Do I need a plugin or a paid service for a contact form?

A static site usually needs some kind of form service or server code to send mail. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it does need to be set up and tested.
